One of the best photo ventures Ive taken with my lifetime buddy Randy was a couple years ago when we traveled to Brown Township, Vinton County, Ohio, to see the famous haunted Moonville Tunnel, built during the 1850s. The town of Moonville sprang up in the heavy forest around the rich coal deposits found near the tracks with its peak population reaching around a hundred by the 1870s. Moonville was so isolated that, to leave town people had to walk the tracks, to get to the nearest towns of Hope or Mineral. Today very little remains of the town itself; a couple of foundations and an old cemetery resting on a hill not far from the abandoned tunnel. Moonville was finally abandoned in the late 1940s after the last person walked away. By the 1960s any building left behind had disappeared. Many ghost stories derived from accidents and deaths centered around the railroad bridges and the tunnel. Some people have claimed to have seen a lady in white wandering about the tunnel or a young boy sitting near Raccoon Creek where he was supposedly run over by a train that he didnt hear coming.
