One of the best thing on Deaf Restaurant yesterday was how the kids touched the hearts of so many visitors yesterday. It was a packed Sunday. They were given salary by Little Wonton. They also receive tips from customers as well. Most wanted to communicate with them to a point of writing it down (cheating!) And some change numbers as well. One of the beauty part of this project was at first it was simply to get the orders for the food. Then while waiting the waiters would teach sign language words to the patrons. This part is all still fun and laughter. The tshirts and pocket books were selling well. All proceeds goes to the Association. But what I observe for merely 6 hours was, they were also looking at us. They would tap my shoulder if they are interested to try and chat with whom I was talking too, they complements and add on their points regarding menu and they look so happy if we managed to sign thank you. Yes, they were observing us. One thing about them is that among them, they do not see any differences. They are close knit and no race, religion and gender separates them. That is amazing. I just felt bad that I could not follow them when they were going for their solah. I would like to see that. Some friends who shed tears shared some insights. How much they take their voice and hearing for granted, saying bad words or gossips, hearing unnecessary things etc. These bunch would never experience watching a movie or theatre or MPO. Their opinions are limited by vocabulary and communication. They would never understand what /how is the sound of the adzan (calling for prayer). We took things for granted. These kids have the most sincerest look to communicate with their eyes and facial expressions. They cant hide it. Its all over their face. I felt like kissing all of their cheeks upon saying goodbye. I learn so much. Another friend got a text from them asking on religious questions. They have mind that works and as I said about their limitations to communicate, they have so many questions. My friend nearly broke down. They are inquisitive bunch and yearn for knowledge. Contact the association if you want to share skills with them. We are so blessed! So frickin bless with our senses. Its on loan peeps, it can be taken away. My hearts are always with them and I will be planning project with them. Next project with them is ZOO. You wanna be in? Let me capture some details first. Its not just a visit to the zoo..... u wud be surprised. Looking for volunteers soon. All messages to leave comments here. My name is Syed Azmi (+60162184769) and this collaboration project of mine is simply for us to help understand one another and also to give these kids opportunity and chance. #tamakpahala much? I hope so.
