One of the best things I learned about fight training was the O.O.D.A. Loop concept. Observe Orient Decide Act. OODA loop describes the process in your brain that governs reaction time. Observe: her experiencing aggressive actions by the attacker. Orient: her brain categorizing actions as aggressive or non aggressive. Decide: her brain concluding that she needs to take steps to preserve herself. Act: her brain implementing a response. The more options you have as a response, the longer the potential reaction time as your brain weighs the pros and cons of each. Here we are once again working on the basics, a front kick to the groin with low level stress input. Its a nonstop low stress drill, no matter what aggressive action I take, her job is to figure out how to find the target and calculate the movements and distances required to deliver a groin strike. Many martial arts have a different defense for each different attack, (That is how I was trained when I was young) but the more options you have the longer it takes to decide which response to implement. The fewer the responses the faster the reaction can be. The faster and harder the response to aggressive action, the better the potential outcome.
