One of the biggest releases of the year Happy New Year released yesterday on one of the biggest holiday of the year which is post Diwali. Film has huge pre release buzz and it is expected to shatter few records in first three day itself. Though like all big releases in recent times film has mixed reviews from few usual suspected sources but that does not matter as box office hurricane has arrived truly in style. Film opened to tremendous response all over in morning itself. Film was close to housefull in early morning shows in Mumbai which is a rarity for any film these days even on festivals. Film is solid in Gujarat, central India and north picked from evening onwards. For example, PVR market city Kurla multiplex saw 95% occupancy in all morning shows and same was the case with Rave Kanpur and PVR Indore. Though long running time of the film means that film will find it tough to touch 40 cr nett as it has 7-10% less shows than Kick and Chennai Express . But film managed to hold on pretty well despite artificial negativity from certain section of industry and media. As per official numbers, film collected huge 44.97 cr on day one out of which 42.62 cr was Hindi. These figures are highest 1st day figure ever for a Bollywood film and that too with 7-10% less shows than Kick and Chennai Express due to long running time. Finally king ruled at box office like always despite all manufactured negativity. This is one record which will be a very tough one to break.
