One of the fascinating, yet sadenning aspects of running for office in Malawi is that you get approached by many people who ask you to pay them so they vote for you. Instead of offering to help mobilize on account of sharing my policy objectives, they claim to share and be inspired by my objectives and then they go on to ask me to give them moneys so they mobilize others. What I find encouraging is that this attitude seems to be prevalent amongst wealthier Malawians working in a wide range of fields, yet, poorer Malawians seem far more focused only on policies and on their understanding the advantages of creating a new political environment. I am running for the office of President in Malawi. I will not buy my way into office in the way that the UDF and MCP and PP and DPP buy votes. I will prevail because more Malawians want a genuinely new political leadership dispension that is not hostage to policy-less recycled politicians. I trust that the latter group of Malawians will not be silenced. I remain encouraged.
