One of the featured works in this weekends concert is Iscariot, a contemporary piece by American composer Christopher Rouse. Although Rouse has remained elusive towards the meaning of the piece, he has said that it is both his most autobiographical score to date as well as his most ritualized. The title is derived from the name of the famous betrayer of Jesus in the New Testament, Judas Iscariot. The 12-minute piece is sectionalized in the ancient Greek dramatic tradition and possesses a slow and dolorous tone. Listen to the music and then come hear it live at DeVos Hall this weekend!
