One of the few Carols I ask all of you to listen to, regardless of faith, just because of how gorgeous it is. Its a James Taylor piece. My Second Carol of Choice for the day is one thats a favorite for both Brian & I. It is called Who Comes This Night, done by James Taylor. Its sort of a mysterious song, and its a tear jerker - it made both of us cry for the longest time. It seems to be about Joseph - at least in part, and if youve read any of Angylaidd, you *know* how strongly I feel about the importance of the fathers bond. But this song did more than that to me - to both of us - and Im still not sure why. Maybe just because its beautiful - it has beautiful lyrics and is done beautifully. I love the implication of the effort of everyone involved to come to the child - as children themselves, for healing, and for love. Here are the words. I encourage you to take a listen. :) Sadly, there is no decent live-performed video, and no decent lyric video. But you can still listen. I really encourage you to go out and buy it if you enjoy. Who Comes This Night Who comes this night, this wintry night, As to the lowly manger? The Shepards and the Kings did come To welcome in the stranger. Who sends this song upon the air, To ease the soul thats aching? To still the cry of deep despair And heal the heart thats breaking. Brother Joseph bring the light Fast, the night is fading. And who will come this wintry night To where the strangers waiting? Who comes this night, with humble heart, To give the fullest measure A gift of purest love to bring What good and worthy treasure. Brother Joseph bring the lamb For they are asking for him The children come this starry night To lay their hearts before him. For those who would the stranger greet Must lay their heart before him And raise their song in voices sweet To worship and adore him Brother Joseph bring the light Fast, the night is fading And who will come this wintry night To where the strangers waiting Brother Joseph bring the lamb For they are asking for him. The children come this starry night To lay their hearts before him. Pure of heart this starry night To lay their hearts before him. https://youtube/watch?v=30-h4ulNDow (Note - all of the videos of this song are... suboptimal. But this is the best I found and it definitely demonstrates this wonderful song, which I urge you to buy - JT is such a wonderful guy. :) )
