One of the first postings I saw on facebook when I got home after General Synod was a comment by a person who shall be nameless saying in effect, thank goodness we have passed the women bishops measure, now we can concentrate on all the things we should have been discussing all this time! I could hear the metaphorical sigh of relief. In effect, now we have dealt with women we can get on with real life. It amused me among other feeling I wont comment on as it is clear that he really does not get it! WATCH, when we looked at our aims recently, that were devised roughly 20 years ago, had 10 which are clearly outlined and you can see on our website (womenandthechurch.org) of which the appointment of women bishops was only one. Pleased as I am after decades of wanting this to happen there is still a long way to go before the gifts, talents and vocations of ALL women in the Church of England are valued and allowed to flourish.
