One of the first things I want to do as your Mayor is to analyze the budget and exercise a line item veto on the budget category called Mayoral Legal Fees and Expenses. I can certainly agree that defending yourself against baseless allegations is something we are all entitled to but we cant have a Mayor that involves themselves in legal disputes just for the sake of doing so or because their ego was damaged or to defend a personal agenda. Further, we cant elect or re-elect a Mayor that is already a party to an ongoing city lawsuit. We have got to stop waiting for the other shoe to fall with something negative in the press that impugns the reputation of Port St Lucie. Candidates Oravec and Faiella are still parties to an ongoing lawsuit(s) involving themselves and the city as well as you the taxpayers. How those matters are resolved will be impacted by whether they are in office or not. The question is, can the taxpayers afford it? I respectfully say no and we should not. Their egos were the source of their actions and neither considered the taxpayers in so far as who would ultimately pay the price. The taxpayers will. In the newest development, Candidate Oravec and his 2013 separation agreement now bring another perspective to the fore front. Oravec, if elected, is bound by the terms of his contract with the city in that he is forbidden of speaking ill of the city OR the city council and this restriction has no time limit. If he remotely makes a statement that could be construed as speaking ill of the city, it will spark yet another lawsuit initiated by the city or a resident. Even if he prevails, the legal fees incurred by the city and Oravec would have to be paid by guess who, you the taxpayers. The question is, can we afford it? On August 26th, you get to make that choice. Nicole Rodriguez Anthony Westbury
