One of the great things bout trad music, esp trad song, is that its a place where you get to be a mad lefty and no one gets to censor that or slag ye off for it, cos its pretty much the norm in Scottish trad. I like caledonia well enough, but I hope that anyone who isnt overly familiar with dougies work but has heard caledonia lately is interested enough to get on YouTube and spottily and look up some of his other stuff to. For me I find that Caledonia can get really syrupy in certain contexts, cos Im a humbug that way. Anyway, he has a lot of other ones about being connected to the land and about love and lefty stuff too, hes worth looking up if ye like that sort of thing. The album craigie dhu is probs most accessible - ironically I think thats the one with caledonia on it! My favourite one is called rescue me and is about a bloke on a hill who is pissy cos he has to use pesticides and stuff on his farm.
