One of the highlights for me on this trip to Kenya was a chance to visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Center and the Rothschild Giraffe Rescue Center outside of Nairobi. Sheldrick Center rescues orphaned elephant babies and rehabs and releases them in the wild. Some of the ellies( baby elephants) are by product of the horrendous ivory trade and others separated from their mothers and clan due to human/ elephant conflicts or drought. The giraffe center rescues a particular variety that was becoming extinct in the north ( there are 3 varieties of giraffes in E. Africa)! Both of these were inspiring and heart warming places! Got to adopt/foster two ellies for my two grand babies-praying for a long and happy life for the ellies and my grand babies!
