One of the largest factors in hypertrophy and muscle development is total training volume. Regardless of the sets/reps scheme the total training volume per exercise should equate to 25+ reps (generally speaking). High intensity training techniques I.e. 5 reps and below can also be used for hypertrophy protocols provided a high number of sets are performed. For example 3x3 wont cut it. 10x3 will! High reps are not always the answer!
