One of the major reasons the merger between ACN and CPC collapsed, I gathered, was due to Bola Tinubus uncompromising stand to be the Vice-President. At that point giving the VP to Tinubu was quite unrealistic! The rest we know is history. When the various parties that formed what is called APC today first told Nigerians about the merger, the major concern was if self interest and personal ego would allow the merger to be a successful process. APC has been able to weather all the storms. Last week the APC conducted its presidential primaries which was a huge success. The concession Speech by other aspirants convinced me that the APC was ready to confront the PDP in the February 14 polls. However, one week after the presidential primaries, the party is still in a dilemma on whom to pick Buharis running mate. Ordinarily choosing Buharis running mate shouldnt be a problem because APC has legions of qualified politicians to fill that position but the twin problem of ethnicity and religion remain a major factor to consider considering our climes. This couple with vested interest of key players in the party is what is stalling the annoucement of a running mate. Bola Tinubu reigniting his 2011 ambition again will definitely throw spanners to APCs dream of entering Aso Villa. Tinubu is eminently qualified to be VP as he enjoyed a cult followership in his region and beyond and seen as the face of opposition politics in this democratic dispensation but for political expediency, his emergency as VP will dwindle APC chances in the next poll from a realitic point of view. I have been a major critic of the opposition brand of politics but I still need them to buffer the monopoly of the pdp and prevent Nigeria from going into a one party state. Tinubu should do the needful and shove his interest aside to prevent a situation where the PDP would have a walk over in the next poll. #My2Cent
