One of the more renowned earlier hunger-striker, he is one of the five Cork natives who have their lives while on hunger-strike. He is famous for saying it wasnt those who inflicted the most, but those who endured the most who would conquer. Terence McSwiney, Died October 25th 1920 Writer, poet, husband, father, comrade and revolutionary. This Corkman was involved in the nationalist movement from an early age. Interned after 1916, he was elected as the republican mayor of Cork city after the murder of his friend Tomás Mac Curtain in March 1920. Arrested in August 1920 for carrying seditious documents, he was sentenced by court martial to 2 years in Brixton prison. Protesting his internment he went on hunger strike and gained massive worldwide support. He died in Brixton prison, England after 75 days. Taken from nga.ie
