One of the most discussed offence is 498A This is applicable against husband and his relative for cruelty towards wife The general perception is that it is applicable in cases related to demand of dowry but this is section is not confined to demand of dowry alone If the behaviour towards wife is such as to drive her to commit suicide or causes grave injury or even danger to her health( mental or physical) OR even harassment for demand of property or money from her or her relatives Then this section is applicable and the punishment is jail for three years and also fine
