One of the most iconic war-protest songs of the sixties... But its inspiration had nothing to do with war, it was merely birthed out of a disgruntled youth-culture angry over a 10pm curfew on Sunset Strip and a radio station starting a rally/riot about it involving less than a thousand people... (And this song was written about the observed events of that night) So it could be said that its out-of-context meaning has completely overwhelmed and obscured its original intent and inspiration... Much like so many other elements of our cultures do... As with many religions, patriotisms, holidays, charitable-causes, fund-raisers, social-movements, and other such collective-activities that are fueled by fervor and zealotry, there is often little or no trace of the original essence of the spark that ignited the blaze remaining in the flame of its current existence.... Every so often we should just STOP... And give enough pause to let the feelings that drive us to believe what we believe and preform the rituals that we preform subside..., then in the quiet of that moment ask ourselves WHY we believe everything we do... Perhaps even carefully sort out our essentials that make us us, and leave all the extra baggage of fervent dogmatic hyperbole behind... youtu.be/gp5JCrSXkJYyoutu.be/gp5JCrSXkJY
