One of the most important and least discussed aspects of Psychic TV is the use and evolution of musical tropes. These sonic tropes, or samples as they would be termed now, although they were self generated rather than appropriated for the most part, were worked into many compositions in differing combinations, especially in performances, where it was often difficult to tell where songs began and ended, part of one song showing up in another, etc. These tropes often had magical or mythopoeic significance -- Jim Jones laughter, Paulas orgasm -- giving them additional resonance once one discovered their source.
