One of the most memorable moments of this trip for Mick, Mike and Tom was singing for the Mass at The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in Killarney. We were joined by Toms sister Diane Mankel and Pete Weatherhead. It was such a thrill to be on the main altar, looking out at this spectacular church. The acoustics were beyond belief! When we sang Amazing Grace, it sent a chill through us all. For the meditation after communion, Mick sang Brendan Nolans spectacular song with the title of Far From Their Home. This Cathedral is a fully restored 19th century Neo Gothic building and has some spectacular architectural elements and stained glass windows. Outside is a huge red oak with a simple stone marker with one word on the stone. The word is Gorta. That is the Irish word for hunger. The stone marks the mass grave for the children that died in the Great Hunger.
