One of the most unacknowledged, but greatest musical talents ever, Warren Zevon passed away on September 7, 2003, from lung cancer. When he was diagnosed with cancer on August 28, 2002, he was given only 3 months to live. His last months of life were spent recording his 12th and final album, The Wind, and awaiting his twin grandsons birth. He was around long enough to finish the album, and to hold his grandsons! He was joined on that album by such musical luminaries as longtime friend and the person that got him his first record contract, Jackson Browne, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmitt, Bruce Springsteen, Joe Walsh, Billy Bob Thornton, his son Jordan Zevon, T-Bone Burnett, David Lindley, Tommy Shaw, John Waite, Steve Gorman, Brad Davis, Ry Cooder, Jorge Calderon (who co-wrote most of the songs and produced the album), Jim Keltner, Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Emmylou Harris, and Dwight Yoakam. The album won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album, Best Rock Vocal Performance for Disorder In The House, the song he and Bruce Springsteen sang together, and three other songs from the album were nominated for Grammys. Warren Zevon, R.I.P.!
