One of the most valuable things Im learning in my work as an educator and advocate is, counter-intuitively, the ability to not correct or call out people all the time. Being the constant critic and authority can be addictive, but its not a sustainable way to do this work. Being able to give people the benefit of the doubt--especially people in your own community, people you trust to generally do good--requires that you learn to love and stand for real concrete human beings, even when they make mistakes, and I think thats a big part of what it means to work for social justice and to unravel the damage our culture does to us all.
