One of the myths around Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) is that they inescapably disadvantage industrial fisheries. An anthropological study into the perspectives of the tuna industry of Manta, Ecuador, revealed that these fishermen perceive the Galapagos Marine Reserve (GMR) as a breeding ground which benefits the tuna fishery on a long term.
