One of the reasons why there was an original Boston Tea Party was that the East India Trading Company was able to strike a deal with the King of England to tax tea but allow their Tea to be the dominant tea entering the colonies. This was not only a form of lobbying but also in our modern day would be violations of RICO Statutes and bribery. Currently Corporate Lobbyists and Union Lobbyists are able to have private meetings with Washingtons Elected Officials and obtain special favors to have their products and services get exclusive rights to American Markets. The price for this is the promise of campaign donations to Congressional re-election campaigns. The way to end this is to place strict regulations on how lobbyists interact with Congress. That is not working out so well. None of us really knows what is going on in Washington DC from day to day. This is one reason why I support Represent Us in their drive to bring honesty back to the election process.
