One of the small learnings in this journey for me is how the fire service will take common words and apply them universal. This is not all bad, but does lead us to erroneous conclusions. One of these is the term transitional attack. It implies starting one place and changing to another in simple terms. KIll the Flashover began with attempting to understand how to identify the fire behaviors that produce a flashover, stop it (kill), prevent, or defend against this event. The intent is not interior or exterior. The intent is to imply the fire crew is outside the compartment or area where the dangers are imminent. This could be out a window in this example, outside the fire compartment in a hallway, on the first floor with the fire in the 2nd floor area or others. So transitional is not adequate from saying exterior transition to an interior. Soften is not adequate description when speaking of it from exterior to interior. The compartment and/or flow path area where the flashover potential exist is the target of the tactic. This video uses KTF Stool principles to address this set of conditions.
