One of the soldiers we met on Shabbat is from Eilat. Sweet young man. Although he and his parents are not native English speakers, he decided in high school to really work on his English. He took the hardest matriculation exams in English--usually taken by native speakers (7 point bagrut in English). These exams include translations from one language to the other. He passed with high score (he didnt say what his score was). He also told us that his is willing to spend his whole life defending the right of Jews to live wherever they want in the their homeland, including the area where we were over shabbat (and where we live). He was quite determined about it. And no, he does not wear a kippah.
