One of the things I do, probably one of the biggest thing I do, is turn off most of my lights for winter solstice. I still have Christmas lights up and use the computer and television. Obviously the parties I attend and public places are lighted but at home I try to do things by daylight or candlelight. So I notice the darkness, the shortness of the days. So I take time to turn inward and reflect. Its a thing I do. On Christmas I celebrate the return of the sun and the lengthening of the days (among other things that mean Christmas to me including Christian and secular traditions and family and friends and material pleasures). I start my solar year at this beginning of light. I like this article.
