One of the things I enjoy most about Sondheim shows is his uncanny ability to capture the best/worst of human character. Whether its the strange Lovette/Todd relationship in Sweeney Todd, looking at a trio of friends over the decades (backwards) in Merrily We Roll Along, or a single (closeted?) mans relationships with a number of straight married couples in Company. Sondheim is able to dissect those complicated and confusing emotions and put them on the stage for everyone to see. I dont usually do mass public displays of affection but Im mentioning all of this because over the past year or so I have had the opportunity to develop and grow some really wonderful relationships with so many beautiful and diverse people. Friendships are very personal things but every once in a while it is nice to acknowledge all the caring and love that we have for one another.
