One of the things I have better educated myself on since my exodus from the Republican party is the concept of volunteerism. I have an idea that I hope will catch on in every county in Kentucky. I will be talking with church leaders and civic leaders in Harrodsburg about a project which would be minimal in cost, and beneficial to many. My idea would be to find an individual, church or other landowner who would volunteer a 30 by 30, up to a 60 by 60 plot that would be tilled, planted and maintained by volunteers with the goal of donating the bounty to families in our community who may do without otherwise. A huge garden: volunteered plot, donated seed, donated manure, volunteered time and labor etc all for helping and feeding those who may need the assistance to feed themselves and their families. Not run by or associated with any government entity. I hope to get everything organized this winter and have a working plan ready for spring. I have already spoken with one church leader who loved the idea, and even thought that his church may be willing to provide the plot. To my Mercer Co friends: if you like the idea and would like to be involved, either directly or indirectly comment or inbox me, and I will start an informal contact list so when the time comes we will be ready to go. If you feel compelled, share. With groups you are involved with, with your congregations or anyone that you feel will be willing to help. Also, organizational thoughts would be welcome.
