Rain (& snow in the mountains) will replenish our water supply and give us inside time to rest and prepare for the spring. If your new year resolution includes starting or expanding your urban farm to include chickens and/or bees, read on to reserve your chicks or bees through us. We also have many classes to give you all the tools and knowledge to ferment, keep bees & chickens, and more! CHICK DAY First Baby Chicks of the Year: February 12th! Weve moved up our first chick day, so you can get started super early this year. Reserve your baby chicks today for pick-up on Thursday, February 12th at 10am! Along with your purchase of chicks, we are offering a free Chicks 101 presentation at 10am by Annie, BioFuel Oasis worker-owner. Annie will also be teaching a comprehensive class for new chicken owners on Feb. 22nd. NUC OF BEES For the fourth year in a row, we will be selling bees from Randy Oliver (pictured at right). Each year he breeds the hives that did best against varroa mites and made the most honey. Your purchase of bees also includes a free class in May/June where Jennifer will lead hive inspections of a couple of the Nucs. If this is your first year for bees, we also recommend taking two other classes: I Got Bees! Now What Do I Do? and if you want to save money and assemble your own boxes/frames, the Build Your Own Hive class. In this first week of January weve sold half of the 40 Nucs that are available, so we recommend reserving asap if you want one. FRUIT TREES - Grafting & Pruning Scion Exchange Presented by the Golden Gate Chapter of the Rare Fruit Growers Stop by the Ed Roberts Campus this Sunday afternoon between noon and 3pm for the annual scion exchange. If you have fruit trees, you will find lots of varieties you can graft on to your trees here, grafting demos, and lots more. Click here for a full description. Now is the time to prune your fruit trees as well - our pruning class on Jan. 25th takes place in the instructors yard where she will demo pruning and offer everyone a chance to try as well.
