One of the things i do a lot of with the shop now is educate people on comics. I think Jeff and Wayne can back me up on this post. Because of these stupid reality shows like Pawn Stars and Storage Wars , many people think that their comics, toys etc. are worth a million dollars and with all the movies and media hype out there i cant really blame them. I am constantly telling people that condition is everything when it comes to comics. Just because you have a stack of comics sitting at the lake that you have used to swat flies with doesnt mean they are worth any money. It would have to be a pretty substantial book to be worth anything with a dead fly carcass stuck to the back page. The biggest enemy and biggest friend i think we as collectors face is Ebay. Educating people on how to effectively use Ebay is an almost every day thing to me now. I was asked to give a few pointers on the subject. Feel free to chime in as you feel necessary...I am only trying to help the people who have asked me about this. I am a little surprised as to how many people dont know how to use Ebay properly. With the right guidance Ebay is a great tool. There is only 1 real concern i get when i am buying a collection or a book from someone and it happens 9 times out of 10. well i saw this book for 100.00 on Ebay so i want 100.00 for it ....99% of the time the person sees what someone is ASKING for the book. Not what it has sold for. I can put my pen that is in front of me on Ebay right now and ask 100.00 for it. Does it mean i am going to get 100.00 for it? Of course not. It means that i have been smoking crack and have too much time on my hands. I use Ebay a lot for pricing books. It shows what the book has sold for recently. What you have to do is scroll about 2/3 of the way down the search results page and on the left of the screen look for the heading : Show Only...and then check off the Sold Listings tab. This will show you what has recently sold and for how much. You will see that the 100.00 pen that i put up actually sold 14 other times today for 1.25...solidifying the fact that i am a complete moron for trying to get 100.00 for a pen. Its amazing how many people i talk to do not know this procedure. I tell people it all the time and get great feedback from those same people a week or so later. This is the first of my little helpful segments that i am gonna start posting. I am not the greatest comic book collector in the world but i am also not the worst. I welcome tips and advice from everyone and anyone. Now...if you will excuse me...i have to go post my pen on Ebay.. Later Addicts....
