One of the things that I most admired about the humour of Jonathan Winters was how he approached his comedy, much like when he put his paint brush to canvas .......... not every creation was memorable, but he was prepared to put it aside and try something fresh. If at first he didnt succeed, he would try, try again ........ he was unpredictable at times, but he had the courage to fire with unchallenged abandon and let the paint hit the canvas, and sculpt and transform the images and ideas that he saw in front of him. One year ago today the world lost a comedic giant ....... an artist who walked a tightrope without a net. Occasionally he might teeter, lose his balance and fall ......... but no matter how many times he stepped off that wire, he gently fell to earth, dusted himself off, and climbed back up to try something new ........ again! One year ago today I wrote this post in tribute to my comedy idol. You marched to your own band, and were grand marshal in your own parade ......... a little out of step with everyone else, but most geniuses tend to be! Rest in peace, dear man.
