One of the things that some of my friends like Dr Vernon Mwaanga and other veteran politicians like Sikota Wina and late Dr Peter Matoka encouraged me to do is write a book on Dr Kaundas foreign policy. Even as a small boy, I was intrigued by the mans involvement in world affairs and having gone on to study politics and getting to understand things better, I came to admire this mans grasp on world affairs. In fact, Dr VJ told me, Dr Kaunda knew his foreign policy very well. This is something I believe we have sadly lacked at Head of State level since 1991. How many African leaders for example had or have a clear understanding of the situation in Nicaragua? In this photo, Then Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega met with Dr Kaunda to brief him on what was happening in his country, including American government meddling in Nicaraguas affairs. A concerned KK listened intently and looked very concerned while Mr Ortega spoke. This was on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement Conference held in Harare. Yes!
