One of the trends in western, capitalist dominated, society is the increase in pressure to do everything by using money to accomplish it. For the poor to lower middle classes this means using money that they do not have, and most often do not have access to that type of money. There is a growing stigma enforced upon activity that makes it more and more illicit to violate that principle, with the poor to lower middle class duped into that trend, or feeling too strongly compelled to follow it. The alternatives, practiced extensively during the 20th century, of cooperation and collaboration, without money being expended to achieve activity, have been made exceedingly rare and difficult to find and achieve. The reason for that is that cooperation and collaboration are essentially communist, not capitalist, when money is not involved. Capitalism demands that money be involved, and disdains communist type practices. The ideological strangle hold that that increasingly places the poor to lower middle class into, is gradually becoming a major source of social stress and individual tension, with more and more feeling more and more pressure to do with money, rather than by any other means, or not do anything at all due to the steady increase of poverty. Pressure to that type of poverty is also increasing, along with the pressure to do everything using money, at the going rates. Of course some areas of activity are severely depleted and constrained by that fact, and that is particularly true of the arts and culture where the contrast between what occurred in the era between 1900 and the 1970s, which was the era of communist cooperation and collaboration, has been replaced by an increasingly stringent criticism of those same practices, in favor of a money only world that is both culturally and socially depleting. Of course no society can endure that type of tension for very long, and it can become a major catalyst to political change, as an unendurable condition.
