This pursuit has taken him the length and breadth of Australia during which he’s battled everything from monster black marlin off Lizard Island to massive tuna and enormous sharks. Along the way, Tim has been awarded six IGFA world records, including an All Tackle world record, and he’s achieved a string of Australian and State records plus numerous tournament wins. Tim is also one of Australia’s most successful tag-and-release anglers, with over 590 marlin, shark, tuna and other gamefish tagged and recaptured. In 1988, he was the national Tag-and-Release Champion in the Bi-Centennial fishing competition. In 1996, the NSW Minister for Fisheries invited Tim to join his Advisory Council on Recreational Fishing (ACoRF), a position he held through several terms until he moved to Queensland. He then became an advisor to the Queensland Fisheries Minister. Tim has also served in several positions for the Game Fishing Association of Australia and NSWGFA including – the Future Directions Committee, Rules Committee and chairman of a New Pointscore sub-committee. He’s also been Chief Judge of the Sydney International Gamefishing Tournament. Back in 1979, at the age of 20, Tim was appointed the State manager of Compleat Angler tackle shops in NSW. The two stores he created were admired around the world and were two of the biggest in Australia, employing 10 full-time staff. Tim’s 24-year involvement in the Australian fishing tackle industry was somewhat influential and he has played a part in the development of many of the trends in fishing techniques and tackle. From 2002 to 2004, Tim researched and wrote The Book of Lures with distinguished co-author Ron Calcutt. This ground-breaking 320-page hardback guide details the design, selection and use of fishing lures. Then, in 2005, Tim was invited to take up the Editorial position on BlueWater Boats and Sportsfishing magazine and shortly afterwards was appointed General Manager. In 2008, the President of the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA) wrote to Tim to say that BlueWater was the very best Pacific gamefishing magazine in the world! In recent years, Tim was appointed a representative of the International Game Fish Association and also a board member of the internationally-renowned billfish protection organisation The Billfish Foundation. Tim has travelled the world on his ongoing mission to discover the best in gamefishing and then deliver it to the readers of BlueWater. Among his recent travels, Tim has caught giant bluefin tuna in Canada, world record wahoo in Fiji, dived with white sharks in South Australia, and joined tournaments in places as far flung as New Guinea, the Maldives, and Hawaii.
