One of the worst things I had to cope with while in the Military was being away from home and very often stuck in some place youd rather not be during the holidays. Over the years I missed birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and every special event you can think of. You try not to dwell on them and keep telling yourself next year will be different but it never is. Its normally between Thanksgiving and New Years thats the worst. The military tries its best , they make sure you have turkey and all the trimmings, Every unit has a Christmas tree of some sort, Santa normally shows up and they keep the mail flowing up till the last second, but way too many dont have anyone to send them even a card. If you know someone or have friends that know someone, send them a card. Let them know youre still here and remember them. When your sitting on the bad end of nowhere it dont take a lot to make your day.
