One of this countrys brightest poets and a person im lucky to call a brother, whose name is Mputlane wa Bofelo has a way of reminiscing about this day in ways that even I can never match. He starts by reminding us how this day in 1977 is remembered as Black Wednesday...a day World Newspaper, a once vibrant newspaper of protest journalism, together with 19 BC-aligned organisations were banned. He narrates that day so beautifully, until he gets to a point where, again in 1986, on the same day, Samora Machel was killed in a plane crash that was from South Africa, headed for Maputo but somewhere in the border of South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique, it crashed. Lest we forget. For me, it is the day I was born and the day I gave birth to my daughter. You should have heard the conversation we had a few minutes ago: (My phone rings) Me: Hi...birthday girl... Her: Happy birthday... Me: Oh, thanks. Happy birthday to you too! Her: Thanks! (and we both roared with laughter...) So yeah...HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
