One of those days that makes teaching so worthwhile. In one of the special needs classes in which Ive subbed, theres an 11-year old boy who months back told me he hates school, wont study or do classwork, and feels no need—hes just going to take over his fathers business some day. I gave him a detailed talk on how you cant count on the family business nor undervalue basic school skills like Math and English that improve your abilities in any profession. Today, I subbed in a class with the same student who seemed extremely happy to see me—making a point to share that hed completely changed his attitude. Ill be darned if he wasnt one of the best and most participatory kids in the class today.
