One of those events where you remember where you were and what you were doing when it happened. I was on the air at WFTC AM in Kinston (located in the same building as WRNS FM) when we started getting calls from concerned listeners south of Mt. Olive about high winds and potential tornadic activity. I have to give major props to my colleague Jon Smith (who was on the air at WRNS) for showing tremendous resolve in the face of such devastating circumstances. In addition to tracking the storm, he helped to handle the overwhelming amount of calls we were receiving from listeners in the early hours of the storm.
