One pastor defines orthodoxy as an open stream that allows for a breadth of different ideas. He then uses this definition to support his belief that people can be saved without believing in Jesus in this lifetime by suggesting that God gives more space. Now I have several thoughts on this. First, orthodoxy is the opposite of how this pastor defines it. It means "straight doctrine" or essentially correct belief. On top of that, Jesus spoke of the very opposite of breadth. He said in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." and as Jesus said, the one way is by believing in Him. One general principle to take away here: beliefs about truth are broad, but truth itself is narrow
