One piece of advice for aspiring startup entrepreneurs after reading thousands of Y Combinator applications: get a real job first. No matter what it is, whether software, manufacturing, shipping, hospitality, media, retail, whatever...get a job in a massive industry thats probably run under legacy paradigms, imagine what its future looks like, then build it (and apply with that idea). Those applications are so much better than the ones from the smart-but-clueless college kids who are all pitching some copycat mush of AirBnB/SnapChat/Uber/etc.
