One question that young parents always ask is: how will my child lose his ability to walk? I can say with certainty that everyone is different when it comes to this direction. Duchenne affects in diverse variations, despite the common side effects. When I couldn’t walk anymore, it didn’t just come all of the sudden. The weakening progression was gradual in that my strength deteriorated rather slowly, but when being wheelchair bound was becoming a necessary reality, I knew it was the right time to let go. I smiled because sitting down was my reward for fighting the good fight. Your child will be fine, regardless of how he retires his legs. He has to be fine. What matters at the end of the day is attitude, and he must choose whether to look at the situation as a blessing or curse. And I’ll tell you, you might think all the physical loss will compromise our mentalities. However, there comes a moment of silence in every boy’s life that will force him to mature when things get to be too much. It will make him as it made me because courage gives us the mindset to remain calm in the foreseeable future. So you can worry, be fearful and scared because you have every right to your feelings, but I’m saying that you don’t have to. Have faith in your little man!
