One reader solved her 20-year hives mystery: Hi, I have had chronic hives for 20 years. I learned to cope never knowing the cause. Since December of last year I commited to finding the culprit. My Dr. suggested going gluten free, so I did. Amazingly my hives were gone, three weeks of eating only a hard boiled egg for breakfast, fresh berries for lunch and talapia, rice and raw veggies for dinner, every day that was all I ate. I was so excited I finally solved a 20 year mystery. Then one day I bought my daughter some cotton candy, I read the label (still not exactly sure what gluten really was) - I see that clearly printed was two glorious words, gluten free. So I ate some. The next morning I was covered with hives, they were on my scalp, around the edge of my face my neck and all the way down. I looked at the ingredients and there it was, red 40, blue 2, and yellow 5. That was when I knew I did not have a gluten allergy, my allergy was to food dyes. The point of my rant is to thank you for starting this page, I feel Im not alone now. My own childs eczema on her arms and legs, and really bad cradle cap, disappeared like magic when we ditched the dyes. If you have a persistent skin condition that hasnt been helped by other remedies, give a dye-free diet a try..)
