One thing I always tell students is that it’s critical not just to be reactive to what is happening now, but also to understand the current movements of science and technology and create a vision for the future. I think it’s important to think about the future not just in a “gee whiz” fashion, but to deliberately see the future unfolding and consider your role, whether to help technology along or to mitigate bad things if you foresee them.--Eric Leuthardt, M.D.
