‘One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.’ (Psalm 27:4). No longer do we have to travel to Jerusalem to find the Lord as did the pre-Calvary saints of Israel. Jesus said to the Samaritan woman by the well that the time would come when the worship of Yahweh would not be the sole domain of Jerusalem or Samaria (John 4:21-24). The temple has gone from Jerusalem and the high places in Samaria no longer exist. Now we are to worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:18), not in a temple made by hands. As true worshippers of God in Christ we are no longer our own and no longer do what we wish but are to enact the will of God. We have been purchased for a very costly price – the shed blood of Jesus (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20)! God now resides in us through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit and we are therefore the temple of God; we are to be holy and undefiled by sin (1 Corinthians 3:16, 17). Where we are is where the temple of God is and we can inquire of Him through prayer and see His beauty in our lives; at least we should! ‘I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord.” (Psalm 122:1). We are exhorted not to forsake the assembling or gathering of ourselves but we should have a heart of gladness when we come together to offer praise and thanksgiving to God for His mercies and goodness to us (Hebrews 10:25). Because we are the temple of God it does not mean that we are to not go to church. In fact there is more reason to go to church once we join the family of God. Are you glad when you go church? Thank you God for loving me as you do. Thank you Jesus for dying for my sins. Thank you Holy Spirit for never giving up on this errant man. I love you!
