One thing I would totally teach my children is not to ignore anyone who speaks to them--unless the pperson is cursing mad or indecent. You can grin and look the speaker in the face even if you dont agree; you can meet their eyes and nod generously when you understand what is said but not ready to respond. You can say, Yes, maam, I hear you. You can give a thumbs up and say, Got it. Or you may state that you disagree. If you are not going to co-operate, youd better say so, and if you are, theres no good reason to avoid saying so. Ignoring is disrespect and makes the one who ignores look ugly.
