One thing about me is so cliched....I just love underdogs. When Darin was in 7th grade, he participated in a regional robotics competition representing his school, Magnolia Science Academy. Their teacher was one of the top math teachers who had trained students for Math Olympiads - 3 national level and 1 international level winners. Two weeks before the competition, the school had to re-organize and the teacher was let go. The Principal asked me to volunteer as the team coach for the competition otherwise they would have to withdraw so I volunteered and the kids were so excited again...they really gave it their best shot... it was so much fun and excitement, even though that year the kids team didnt win anything, but the following year (2014), I also volunteered as coach for the same team and that time they won 3rd prize! Even I got a medal and I gave that to the school which hangs in front of. The Principals office in the trophy cabinet. Thats why Im going to recommend watching this film this weekend to everyone...Watch the trailer below. Heres a synopsis: With the help of their high schools newest teacher (George Lopez), four Hispanic students form a robotics club. Although they have no experience, the youths set their sights on a national robotics contest. With $800 and parts scavenged from old cars, they build a robot and compete against reigning champion MIT. Along the way, the students learn not only how to build a robot but something far more important: how to forge bonds that will last a lifetime.
