One thing which gets in my craw about modern wrestling is - TopicsExpress

One thing which gets in my craw about modern wrestling is this. Yes, I know were living in the post-kayfabe era, but theres no need to remind people of that. If wrestling is fake, then its just as fake as any action film - whether its John Wayne, Bruce Lee or Arnold Schwarzeneggar (probably less, in a lot of cases, because wrestlers dont have stuntmen). We dont expect a movie action hero to stop halfway through gunning down a horde of faceless opponents and stop, saying, Hey, its just fake. This isnt a real gun and that guy I just killed is a stuntman. Say hi, Frank. So why should we accept it of professional wrestling? I come at it like this. A wrestling program is, in kayfabe terms, an athletic program where people compete in matches in order to elevate their status to the point where they can challenge for a title. Frequently, these contests are driven by motivations other than pure athletic competition as wrestlers develop personal grudges against opponents which turn into feuds. This program exists in a heightened reality where some rules of cause and effect are different (like in an action movie), but other than that, thats what youre working with.I just wish bookers would take this into consideration - is this rational within the framework that were operating within? Because if it isnt, you may as well be waving your ass at the audience chanting, Look at this! Isnt it fake? Look at our silly fake fighting show!
