One third of $1 billion changed hands at the Pebble Beach Auctions - TopicsExpress

One third of $1 billion changed hands at the Pebble Beach Auctions last year. More offerings and early results suggest that this figure will be easily eclipsed this year. A 1930s BMW 328 similar to that pictured below is listed as lot 34 and expected to sell between $600,000 and $800,000 at Goodings auction. Certain modifications have brought the estimated price to these lower numbers. Previously the estimate was $1,200,000 to $1,400,000. Does the figure seem surprising? A 1962 Ferrari GTO sold Thursday night for $38,115,000 at the Bonhams auction. A 1937 BMW 328 roadster, Lot 267, sold for $990,000 there. Carlo Demands archives include numerous isolated views of important cars of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. They are not among the 2058 Images published in his 11 hardcover books. Does anyone know where they were used?
