One way to determine if you have an inefficient bar path is to place a piece of athletic tape (or draw a straight line with chalk) at your start position. After you perform a lift this reference point will help you determine if you are having technique problems in your pull, such as bumping the bar forward at the mid-thigh so that you have to jump forward to catch the bar. Here Lindsey does two hip snatches (a drill that often results in athletes swinging the bar forward) followed by a full snatch. Although you can use this method as a way to self coach, if you have a training partner he or she can tell you if you are jumping forward (or perhaps too far backward).
