One word I would not use in dialogue with my interfaith colleagues - TopicsExpress

One word I would not use in dialogue with my interfaith colleagues is must. To do so is disrespectful and inflammatory on so many different levels. Firstly, it implies a judgement made against them. It suggests that some vicarious responsibility for an action that is possibly equally appalling to them but beyond their power to change. Secondly, it suggests an act of superiority over the other. I will not be party to anything that does that, and would hope others would refrain from adding me to a demand for action. Whilst such an action may have good intentions, it unfairly presents my view as holding a high moral ground. I am more than happy to invite my many friends of other faith to join with me in praying for the peace of the Middle East, but at no stage will I ever demand that they do so, nor impel them to any action, no matter what. I resent having my name associated with such a call, and to my Islamic friends on Facebook, I apologise that my name was included in such a group. This was done without my permission, and I regret that I didnt see it sooner. Both Hamas and Israels actions are appalling. Over 700 civilian deaths, inflicted mutually, is totally unacceptable. I pray for a solution, but I will not demand an action on those not involved. O pray for the peace of Jerusalem: may all who enter there prosper.
