One year ago today I was lying on a table in a very cold surgical suite with a tube inserted into my femoral artery going up to my heart, where a stent was placed. Twelve weeks of cardiac rehab later I was told that my cardiologist strongly advised against running and suggested that I find another way to keep fit. After a stress test revealed no permanent damage to my heart I was allowed to run "short distances". Short being a relative term, and given that I have friends who regularly run 50 and 100 mile ultra marathons, I set my sights on a half marathon. In the intervening year I have run over 500 miles and I completed that half marathon. I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and fellow idiots for helping me along with my recovery.
